“Civic Reflection, Democracy and Service” Workshop
Making a difference as a volunteer, helping others, building community...what does this commitment mean to one' s self and the community?
The Taiwan Foundation for Democracy is pleased to invite Mr. Brian MacHarg, Director of Service-Learning at Eckerd College (Florida, USA), to conduct a workshop on the themes of community service and democratic participation in modern-day civic life. Through guided discussion, the workshop will prompt participants to think and talk about what they believe their role and responsibility are in serving communities, and the implications for a democratic society. Possible questions to be discussed include, “Why do we serve others in our society?” “What is serving a community and what does democratic participation look like?” “What are the complexities of civic responsibility and service?”
This workshop is modeled after civic reflection series that have been conducted for AmeriCorps volunteers in Florida, Illinois, and Indiana. For more background information, please see: http://www.civicreflection.org
All members of the public are welcome. Please note that the workshop will be conducted in English.
